Sunday Update, 2016-1

Every now and again, I get my act together enough to put up a Sunday post!

I'm hooking into:

This is a meme hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer wherein everyone gets to share their news for the week. It's a great opportunity to see what's happening out there in the blogosphere, so go check out some other Sunday Posters!

Today's post is going to have a few sections:

1. General Update

2. Currently...

3. Current Schedule

4. Book Clubs

1. General Update

I hope everyone's had a fantastic holiday season, and is now kicking butt in the new year! It's been a fantastic first week for me--I've been tackling my various goals and tasks, and keeping my attitude really positive.

The rest of this month should, hopefully, be more of the same as there aren't any events or holidays coming up to really disrupt my schedule. That said, all my kids' extracurriculars come online this week, so we'll see how that affects me!

2. Currently...

This is a meme I've borrowed from Coffee Bean Bookshop"Currently" is a questionnaire style update about what's going on at the moment in my life;

Reading: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Watching: I've been catching up on this season of Elementary, and watching qualifiers for a big Dota 2 tournament.
Playing: Dota 2 and Broforce
Feeling: Upbeat about how successful my year is going so far.
Loving: The unseasonably warm weather we've had. I'm okay with this being a mild winter!
Hating: Folding laundry. My least favourite chore, I think.
Planning: After school outings to keep my kids off the computer/wii u
Wanting: More hours in the day, always.
Thinking: That it may be too early to start thinking about what I want to get accomplished in February, but that's not stopping me.

3. Current Schedule

I'm committed to posting reviews Tuesday/Thursday. I have a bunch of blog tours coming up toward the end of the month. I may post the occasional review on an off day, but those two are solid. Last week I got up a few extra posts, musings and such. I may do the same in the weeks ahead, but I'm not going to say, yes, definitely this type of post on day 1 and that on day 2 and so on. Also, I had a confessional-style post about libraries written and I lost it. So frustrating! I might be a little slow to get another one together.

3. Book Clubs

Emma Watson's feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf, started this week. First selection? Gloria Steinham's new memoir, My Life on the Road.  I haven't picked it up, and I really doubt I'll have a chance to check it out before the book club starts talking about it at the end of the month, but I'm excited to see what everyone has to say about, and to see how the conversation goes.

I was in a book club for about a year or so, six or so years ago, and I loved it. It was such a pleasure to read books, and then discuss them critically with friends.

I've missed it quite a bit since then.

Are you in/have you ever been in a book club? What do/did you love about it?

  1. That's great that you are having such a great start to the new year. I hope things continue to look up for you.

I've never been in a book club. I wanted to start a local one through our library, but haven't had a chance to even try to see if anyone would be interested in doing one.

New Follower on Bloglovin and Twitter! Hope you have a wonderful week! :D

  2. Book clubs sound cool but I only read romance and there aren't any book clubs for that! Everyone in book club wants to read deep, meaningful books and I am just like "Meh. This guy is a Navy SEAL and he saves her!" So, yeah, no book club for me!
