Why I picked up this book:

I enjoyed the first one enough that I wanted to see what happened next.

Blurb:

The second installment in a brand-new erotic romance e-serial by New York Times bestselling author Megan Hart.

The dance has begun. Simone’s ready to follow all her desires, but reluctant Elliott isn’t ready to take the lead.
After teasing Elliott into going dancing with her, Simone seduces him. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid of asking for it, and Elliott appears to be as eager as she is to see where their passion takes them. The sex is electric, but Elliott is taken aback by his response to her, and when Simone reveals her kink for pain to him, he’s unable to accept it and tells her he doesn’t want to see her again.

And then they’re both invited to the same party.

My thoughts:

A lot of my comments about the first part still stand, so check out that review here

Simone and Elliott (literally) dance around each other as Simone tries to negotiate her way through Elliott's denial about his own desires. She's convinced he's lying to himself about what he wants, and she's willing to go only so far to try to get him to open up.

Elliott's resistance is neither pro nor con for me at this point. He has some history, which is fleshed out nicely here, and that helps support pushing Simone away on a superficial level. Still, I wanted to shake him and tell him to embrace the gift that was finding a woman with complimentary desires.

Once again I enjoyed Simone's upfront behaviour. It was very refreshing to have someone put it all on the table from the start instead of playing coy or testing her partner before admitting to what she wants.

I also liked that Simone's quite clear about liking pain with her pleasure but without the trappings of a dominant-submissive relationship. That clarity appealed to me.

I found the ending of this section a little less compelling than the first part. I'm still interested in the series, but I'm not itching to buy the third installment. This might be because of the interaction between Simone and Elliot or simply because the promise of what's to come didn't entice as much.

Bottom line:

I recommend this, but start with the first section.
