Stacking the Shelves - May 31, 2014

Stacking the Shelves is an awesome meme hosted by Tynga's Review.

Bloggers share the books they've received, bought, borrowed - and I collect more and more books for my 'must acquire' list.

I've been trying to be 'good' about book acquisitions. I had a few outstanding reviews that have lingered on my plate for far too long, so I didn't want to pick up too many.
From Amazon.ca:

From Chapters, I grabbed:

What I really wanted to buy was the second and third books in the Under the Never Sky series, plus Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor.

For review, I picked up only His Every Need from Terri Austin and Sourcebooks Casablanca.

Pretty modest haul for me this week. I've already read Shrinking Violet and am halfway through Gossamer Wing (both good, the former very YA, very much about finding your voice and being comfortable in your own skin, while the latter is a delightful steampunk romance). I would really love a steampunk costume to muck about in every now and again.

So what did you get in your haul?  What do you think I should read first?

  1. Shrinking Violet looks like my kind of book! And I love steampunk, I'll have to check out Gossamer Wing.

    1. Shrinking Violet was a quick read, cute, definitely YA. I'm loving the Delphine Dryden books - the perfect mix, for me, of steampunk and romance.

  3. I don't think I've ever seen Shrinking Violet mentioned by another blogger before. I really enjoyed that one! I hope you enjoy the rest of your new books. :)

    1. It's cute, and sweet, and very YA. Maybe a bit on the younger side of YA? I loved how it handles shyness - something I think more books in the YA/NA genres should do!

  4. I've heard great things about Brandon Sanderson's novels though I have yet to check them out. I'm hoping to do that soon! I Hope you enjoy your books. :)

    1. I read the first in his Mistborn series and *loved* it, and then read some blurbs for later books in the series and didn't want to keep reading because I was afraid he'd break my heart ;) I figure the danger has to be slightly less with a YA book.. right? (I know.. I know... I'm dreaming)

    1. Thanks for dropping by! I really stumbled over the first two - the Dryden books I found when I was checking to see if Wallbanger had gone on sale... I happened to notice a steampunk cover in the romance section and was alllll over it. :)
