Blog Tour, Christmas in October: Snowbound at Christmas by Debbie Mason

Happy Christmas in October!

Christmas in October continues today with this blog tour stop!

Today I'm hosting a tour stop for Debbie Mason's Snowbound at Christmas. This is the fifth book in the Christmas Colorado series, from Forever. The cover and title made it an easy selection for Christmas in October!

Check out the other stops on the tour at Tasty Book Tours.

The Book:

Surviving the holidays will take a Christmas miracle . . .

Ex-cop Cat O'Connor is bored working for her sister, Chloe, as a personal assistant on the set of her soap opera. Until Chloe gets an opportunity to audition for the role of a lifetime and asks her identical twin to substitute for her on the soap with no one the wiser. It's a perfect switch-until Cat attracts the attention of the mysterious Mr. Tall, Dark, and Way-too-handsome leading man.

Grayson Alexander never thought being snowbound in the charming town of Christmas, Colorado, for the holiday would get so hot. But between working with sexy, tough Cat on set and keeping his real reason for being there under wraps, he's definitely feeling the heat. And if there's one thing they'll learn as they bring out the mistletoe, it's that in this town, true love is always in season

Review:
Christmas Component:

As far as Christmas books go, I usually think ones with Christmas in the title look pretty promising.

Snowbound at Christmas has snow, is timed around the holidays, and even features Christmas parade.

But Christmas is actually the name of the town in which most of the story takes place, and while the holiday itself does appear as part of the backdrop, it's never really front-and-centre. I'd rate this one 3 presents out of 5 for Christmas content. Good for a warm-up, but not if you're looking to really embrace the holiday.

My thoughts:

Snowbound at Christmas is wonderfully entertaining in an over-the-top, soap opera-y kind of way.

With twin sisters, one the ex-cop-now-bodyguard/gopher for her soap opera diva sister, the story never stops to take itself too seriously. Which is good, because it doesn't need to!  Cat, the ex-cop, hates the job she has, and is only working for her unbearable sister, Chloe, because Chloe needs protection.

While the blurb makes it sound like the story revolves around Cat pretending to be Chloe, this is only a small part of the larger, zany tale. It travels from the sound stages of Chloe's soap opera to the town of Christmas, Colorado--at Christmas time, mind you. There's plenty of undercover work, sneaking into bedrooms after hours, and investigating strangely suspicious accidents. With a very colourful cast of characters, and a plot that's truly worth of the finest daytime television, I really couldn't put this book down.

Cat and Grayson are both likable leads, and their chemistry provided a solid foundation for this romance.  But, the mystery of who has it out for Chloe really consumes the majority of the story (and with all of her selfish hijinks, it's not hard to understand why anyone would want to do her in). I suspected everyone, and now want to re-read with a less suspicious eye so I can enjoy the story even more--it's exhausting thinking everyone could be the bad guy!

Unfortunately, there's a hint that a future book in the series will feature Chloe and an man from her and Cat's mutual past. I cannot imagine being less interested in reading about this horrible woman getting her own HEA. Which almost makes me feel bad for her. Almost.

Bottom line:

While not as Christmas-y as I expected based on the title and cover, Snowbound at Christmas is a very entertaining tale about love, acting, and learning when it's best to simply be yourself!
