Sunday Update (2)

Every other Sunday I'll be posting a general news post. These might preview things I'm planning for the two weeks following (such as a new feature - On My Mind), they might reflect on books I'm looking forward to, or that I've recently heard of and want to discuss.

I'm hooking into:

This is a meme hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer wherein everyone gets to share their news for the week. It's a great opportunity to see what's happening out there in the blogosphere, so go check out some other Sunday Posters!

Today's post is going to have a few sections:

1. Update on Wicked Valentine's Read-a-thon

2. Sales!

3. Currently...

4. Follow the Blog!

1. Wicked Valentine's Read-a-Thon

I joined this read-a-thon to try to get a handle on the books I'd requested for review during the middle two weeks in February. Loving romance as I do, it was far too easy to get overloaded for this period of time - so many interesting-looking books released leading up to Valentine's Day!  My goal was to read ten books in ten days or 2500 pages. This is day eight and I've managed seven books, so I'm feeling pretty darn good at this point. I'll post a big wrap-up on Monday, but I'd guess I can squeak in another two if not three before the end of the 17th. Also I have some *epic* book spine poetry (in my mind), which I am going to post up then, which may or may not be too late for the challenge, which is fine either way with me!

2. Sales

There are some fantastic sales going on that I have to flag for you!

First, Michele Renae's Screen released last week, and I reviewed it here. I love, love, love the Paris Secrets series, and she's decided to discount the first book, Window for *this weekend only* to 99 cents. You guys should check this one out - erotic daydreams, voyeurism and exhibitionism, this is one hot read!  Check it out on Amazon.com and grab yourself a copy.

The other sale that I have to mention is for the publisher Entangled. They've discounted all of their February releases to 99 cents this month, and I have picked up a stack of them (from Amazon again), including:

3. Currently...

Last Sunday Update I mentioned wanting to include some chattier posts - well, one of my current 'go-to' blogs is the Coffee Bean Bookshop, which occasionally posts a meme entitled "Currently" which is questionnaire style update about what's going on at the moment. I thought I'd answer it today:

Reading: Thrown for a Curve by Sugar Jamison
Watching: My husband and I just discovered Men at Work. I'm only four episodes into the first season, but I'm really enjoying the show so far.
Listening: I tend not to have specific music on - I listen to Top 40s music on the radio. The song I hear the most lately is probably the Cha-Cha Slide because my daughter learned the dance at preschool and it's featuring heavily in our rotation at home.
Feeling: Tired. Between trying to kick a cold and having both my kids awake over the course of the night the last few nights in a row, I'm a little worn down.
Loving: My husband for emptying out the trunk of my van this afternoon. Silly little thing but I was dreading having to haul out the stuff we've got stored there so that I could put the two back seats into use this evening. Note to romance writers: Sometimes it's the little gestures that are romantic!
Hating: That I haven't watched more of the Olympics.
Planning: A schedule for the next few weeks that accommodates more play time with the kids, plus part-time work from home, housework and blogging regularly.
Wanting: A new camera because the screen on mine isn't working anymore. I sense an impulse purchase looming....
Thinking: That I need to really zoom in on what I want to get out of blogging and what I want to offer through it.

Bonus:  This was probably my favourite blog post that I read in the past week or two, talking about blogging and book reviews. The comments are really interesting, teasing out different types of bloggers and generally making me think about how I approach book reviews and posting them.

    1. Thank you for stopping by - it's funny how just the unexpected gestures of caring mean so much more than the big ones. He came in with flowers for me too, but I was so grateful for the unloading of the van that the flowers were unnecessary :D

    1. Right?? I find it so hard to resist - it's crazy to me to think that just four months ago I had never read anything put out by this publisher (and many others) and now I'm salivating over their catalogues!

    1. Thank you for stopping by! I think it's interesting to think about the nature of reviews and how we each approach them. It certainly impacts how they should be received and I think I'll be more conscious about evaluating the overall atmosphere of a blog when I'm checking out reviews.

  5. How sweet of your husband! And you are right sometimes coming home and finding a little thing done like the kitchen being cleaned is SO romantic!

    1. It's very true. It's the unexpected gestures, taking care of the house, kids, whatever it is that takes a little pressure off of us... So nice, so sweet!

    1. Screen was quite enjoyable too! I love that it's so *not* the normal alpha male needing control/BDSM erotica that's so dominant right now!
