Blog Tour: My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton

I love a good paranormal mystery combination, which is good because today I'm hosting My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton. This book was originally published in 2011 but has been revised and updated for a re-release in December of 2014 by Nitewolf Novels.

My Review

My Blood Runs Blue combines crime drama and paranormal romance to great effect.

Now, the book contains both vampires and a love triangle, two things that need to be really done to perfection to avoid being written off as "over done." I liked the spin on vampires in this book - there's some interesting ideas around the policing of vampires and mating and such that I think worked well. The love triangle also kept me engaged - I think having all three perspectives provided some useful insights at times. I also thought the love triangle was actually an integral part of the story and the twists and turns of it, so kudos for that!

I really enjoyed the way that the vampire world is layered over Kristin's early chapters, well before she knows the truth. The book does a great job of leaving little clues for the reader, whether we're in the know about something or not. There's also some great crime/cop details here - a reflection of the author's own background, I believe - and that gave some great flavor to the story. This could have worked without the paranormal component - but I'm glad it has it!

While sometimes the writing is a little loose, too laboured or repetitive, I think that ultimately the strength of the plot (and its many twists) carried me through. I was always entertained, even if I thought the book lacked finesse at times, and entertainment factor is probably the most important for me.

The Bottom Line:

I'd recommend My Blood Runs Blue for fans who like a healthy dose of paranormal with their suspense novels and vice versa. While the writing isn't perfect, there's lots of strength in the construction of the plot and worldbuilding. I look forward to book two in the series.
